LBCCG successfully applied for Round 3 of the Queensland Department of Environment & Heritage Protection’s Everyone’s Environment Grants. The program allocated $5 million to eligible organisations to undertake a range of on-ground activities to help protect Queensland’s threatened species, clean up urban areas and conserve Queensland’s built heritage. LBCCG’s project, Mid Obi Riparian Corridor Protection seeks to protect and enhance the riparian zone on the Obi Obi Creek immediately upstream of the beautiful Gardners Falls just outside Maleny. Previous projects had fenced the riparian zone and installed off stream watering to exclude livestock but environmental weeds threatened areas of remnant vegetation, good quality regrowth vegetation and harboured pest species.

This new project has been managing environmental weeds through various means and soon 100 Richmond birdwing vines will be planted by international volunteers.
